The Tasting:

* 2014 Michael Pozznan Wine – Annabelle Chardonnay

The Annabella 2014 Napa Valley Russian River Reserve Chardonnay is a bright, light straw color in the glass. Youthful but sophisticated, the wine entices with aromas of honeydew melon, juicy tangerine, and a slight hint of butterscotch. In the mouth, the wine strikes an impossible balance between voluptuous and delicate – with a silky, weighty mouth feel playing counterpoint to fine-spun flavors of citrus blossom and a hint of cinnamon. The slight structure provided by oak frames the wine’s delicacy perfectly, providing length and depth to its elegance. Enjoy this wine with butter sautéed sea scallops, served with an arugula salad with goat cheese and mandarin oranges.

* 2010 Domaine Brunely Vacqueyras “Cuvee la Tour Aux Cailles”

Half Grenache, half Syrah. Fermented and aged all in concrete tank. This is BIG. Dark, rich color. Leads with briar-y wild blueberries and dark strawberries then black pepper, violets, crème de cassis and new leather. Very cleanly made (no “French funk” here). Firm tannins and good acidity…this is one to cellar. Decant for at least an hour. Better yet, hold and drink now 2016-2022.

* 2013 Domaines Astruc Reserve Pinot Noir (Vin de Pays d’Oc) Languedoc-Roussillon, France

This lovely wine starts off with sweet strawberry jam and maraschino cherry scents that turn raw and leafy on the palate. Lean and green on the finish. For wine enthusiasts on a budget, Languedoc-Roussillon is becoming known as a great value wine, and Pinot Noir pairs well with a wide range of foods—these fruitier versions make a great match with salmon or other fatty fish, roasted chicken or pasta dishes.

* Echeverria 2013 Gran Reserva, Syrah, Colchagua Valley, Chile

A vibrant and tasty syrah. Notes of deep purple color. Bright, savory, complex aromas of black raspberry custard tart, chocolate, smoked peppercorn, and mixed olives with a supple, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a smooth, appealing, medium-length tomato, meat, and nutskin finish with well-integrated tannins and moderate oak. This wine is a vibrant and tasty syrah that will shine at your table.

* 2013 Tres Palacios, Carmena Reserva, Maipo

Tres Palacios produces some of the best Merlot in Chile, but also some soft, elegant Cabernet. The100% Carmena wine was allowed to stand for 10 months in French oak barrels.
Aromas of ripe black and red fruits like blackberry, blueberry, strawberry and cherry, with spicy notes blend with hints of chocolate and snuff, for a rich structure, thick and balanced wine, with soft , velvety tannins that give a large volume and persistence. Ideal for pasta, semi mature cheeses, soft meats.

* 2013 Esser Vineyards – Monterey County Cabernet Sauvignon

Award-winning Esser Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, produced from lots from San Lucas and the most southern location Hames Valley Vineyards. The blend elicits deep aromas of black cherry, plum, dark chocolate and oak spice. Mouth filling flavors of black fruits, cocoa and vanilla are balanced with integrated tannins and a lingering finish of sweet fruit and subtle spices.
